Popular Android smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and Google have dabbed into the world of foldable in recent times. Apple has yet to venture into this territory and the Cupertino-based tech giant seems to have remained resistant to peer pressure of its competitors. However, things could change now, as according to a new 9to5Mac report, Apple is planning to introduce two foldable devices in 2026.
According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu, who is also associated with the Haitong International Securities Group, we will first see a hybrid of two popular Apple devices: the iPad and the MacBook, featuring an 18.8-inch main display when unfolded. Previously, an earlier report from last month claimed that Apple had signed a supply deal with Samsung for its foldable iPhone, which could have a top-down folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Flip series smartphones.
Therefore, this foldable smartphone will have a clamshell design, with an outer cover screen, similar to the recently launched Motorola Razr 50 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6. This smartphone could also launch before the end of 2026. Pu's research notes also suggest that the iPad-MacBook hybrid will be the first foldable launched by Apple in Q2 2026.
Many earlier reports also suggested that this foldable device could enter mass production next year. However, Pu has rebuffed these claims, and we may have to wait longer to see the first foldable devices from Apple.
