Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is reportedly planning to launch a brand-new smart home operating system called ‘homeOS’ at WWDC 2025. The company has been known to create a subsidiary operating system dedicated to its ecosystem devices, such as iOS for the iPhone, watchOS for the Apple Watch, iPadOS for iPad, and so on. Along similar lines, this new operating system is tipped to power Apple’s smart home devices.
Apple files trademark for ‘homeOS’: Key detailsAn April 16, 2025, trademark discovery was spotted by Parker Ortolani and reported by 9to5Mac confirms that the name ‘homeOS’ was registered in April under a company called Home Operations Suite LLC. The address and legal details used in the registration point to Apple, which has a history of creating limited-liability companies with generic names to discreetly protect its intellectual property or unannounced products.
The trademark is listed in two categories: one for software products and one for software services. These details hint at a possible ‘homeOS’ appearance at the upcoming WWDC 2025 event, which could debut alongside a new device, named HomePad. Previously, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has hinted at a smart speaker with a screen to be launched soon, which could be Apple’s next big smart home product.
Moreover, this smart hub would allow users to control smart home accessories, make FaceTime video calls, and use Apple's intercom feature between rooms. It is tipped to come with a 7-inch screen and have a robotic arm that can move the display around. It could arrive by the end of this year and might be the first device to run on the rumoured ‘homeOS.’
