If you’ve ever felt that your iPad could do a lot more, you’re not alone. According to a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a big makeover for the iPad’s software, and it might finally give users what they’ve been asking for: more Mac-like features.
The next big update, called iPadOS 19, is reportedly being designed to work a lot more like macOS, the operating system used on Apple’s Mac computers. Gurman says this change has been a long time coming, especially since iPads have had powerful hardware for years, but the software hasn’t fully kept up. Many iPad fans and power users have been asking Apple to turn the iPad into a better productivity machine — and it seems the company is finally listening.
The upcoming update is expected to focus on three major areas: productivity, multitasking, and app window management. In simple terms, this means users might be able to move apps around more freely, open multiple windows, and handle tasks in a way that feels closer to using a Mac.
This news comes alongside Apple’s other big software plans. Gurman also mentioned a complete redesign for the iPhone’s iOS 19 and the first Mac design update in five years — so it looks like Apple is gearing up for some major changes across its entire product lineup.
While this doesn’t mean the iPad will turn into a full Mac, it’s still a big step forward. As Gurman points out, there might still be a few limitations, but this direction shows that Apple is serious about making the iPad a more powerful and flexible device.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what iPadOS 19 brings, but it’s clear that Apple is finally moving towards giving users the Mac-like iPad experience they’ve wanted for years.
