After introducing the iPhone 16e last month, Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is preparing to introduce the next-generation MacBook Air powered by the advanced M4 chip. The company’s CEO, Tim Cook, shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) hinting at the arrival of an Air-series device this week, suggesting that Apple is preparing to unveil the M4-equipped MacBook Air.
Apple MacBook Air M4: Rumored specs
The new MacBook Air is expected to come with Apple’s latest M4 chip. While it won’t be the Pro or Max variant, the standard M4 chip with its 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine architecture is capable of handling up to 38 trillion operations per second. This is a significant leap from the M3 and makes the upcoming MacBook Air more equipped to handle heavy loads.
Further, according to a Bloomberg report last month, Apple will likely retain 13-inch and 15-inch models, similar to the M3-powered MacBooks. The M4 chipset, with its improved power efficiency, is also expected to provide enhanced battery life compared to previous generations. In addition to the SoC upgrade, the base RAM in the MacBook Air will likely increase to 16GB, aligning with the recent MacBook Pro refresh.
The MacBook Air M4 is also expected to feature an upgraded 12MP camera with Center Stage support. This feature will automatically adjust the camera at the centre to keep the user in the frame during video meetings or calls. Moreover, Apple could also upgrade the existing Thunderbolt 3 ports on the current generation MacBook Air to Thunderbolt 4 on the upcoming M4 model.
