Apple’s iPhone 17 series launch has not only introduced new devices but also reshaped the company’s product lineup. With the arrival of the latest iPhones, Apple has officially discontinued four of its previous-generation models, streamlining its offerings for 2025.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max discontinued
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which were launched in September 2024, are no longer part of Apple’s portfolio. In India, the iPhone 16 Pro was introduced at Rs 1,19,900 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max started at Rs 1,44,900 for the 256GB storage option. Both devices stood out for their upgraded camera systems and strong performance but have now been retired to make way for the iPhone 17 Pro series.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus retired
Alongside the iPhone 16 Pro models, Apple has also ended sales of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. These devices were positioned as affordable entry points into the Apple ecosystem, offering a balance of design and features. With their discontinuation, Apple has reduced the number of older iPhone models available for buyers, further shifting focus to its newer lineups.
What the iPhone 17 series brings
The discontinuation coincides with the debut of the iPhone 17 series, which includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Pro series in particular brings notable upgrades, with a 48MP telephoto lens replacing the older 12MP sensor for sharper zoom and improved photography.
In terms of pricing in India, the iPhone 17 Pro is available starting at Rs 1,34,900 for the 256GB variant, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max begins at Rs 1,49,900 for the same storage. These devices highlight Apple’s push to offer premium hardware with advanced camera capabilities and improved performance.
By retiring older models and focusing on its newest releases, Apple continues its strategy of refining the iPhone lineup each year to balance innovation with streamlined choices for buyers.
