A couple of days ago, Apple discontinued two of the affordable MacBooks – the MacBook Air M2 and MacBook Air M3. This move came soon after the launch of the all-new MacBook Air M4, which not only comes in an all-new colour but also comes bearing much improved performance, battery life and features.
MacBook Air M3 and MacBook Air M2 discontinued
Apple has removed both MacBooks from the website and has discontinued them officially across all the markets in the world, including India. This means users can no longer purchase these two devices officially from Apple.
However, both the devices are still available at a discounted price from third-party resellers such as Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, and offline retail channels. MacBook Air M4 is the only Air that you can buy from Apple officially.
Why MacBook Air M3 and M2 discontinuation is good news for users
Apple discontinuing the old devices after a new one arrives is not a new thing. The company has been doing this for a while now when it comes to iPhones and even MacBooks. This time, the company has discontinued two models at once and has only retained the newer one – the M4 MacBook Air.
The good part is that the laptop comes with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage by default. The older models had an 8GB variant, too. So, both the laptops in comparison to the M4 one is less powerful and less efficient too.
But that’s not the real deal here. The deal breaker part is the price of the MacBook Air M4. The starting price is Rs 99,900, and with the bank discount, the cost comes down to Rs 89,900, which is impressive for the buyers.
The M2 MacBook Air is indeed available at around Rs 75,000. But it is also a couple of years older now and will lose software support sooner than the new model. The same applies to the M3, but the 16GB variant of the M3 is Rs 1,06,900, which is a whopping Rs 17,900 expensive than the latest MacBook Air M4 model.
