Apple has reportedly trimmed its services division Nand laid off close to 100 employees. A report by Bloomberg suggests that Apple has cut some engineering roles. The two teams where job cuts have had the most impact are Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore teams. The report also mentions that the team that runs Apple News has also been impacted by job cuts.

Apple Books has been around for a while now but hasn’t seen any major upgrades for years. The report by Bloomberg says that the app has become less of a priority for Apple. With no updates or new features, it is clear that Apple Books isn’t really a focus area for Apple’s Services business. Apple won’t be shutting down the Books app and is expected to be updated in the future.

The other team impacted is the one working on Apple News app. Launched with a lot of fanfare about five years back, Apple News hasn’t seen too much of traction. It is restricted to some countries and isn’t available in quite a few major markets, including India.

Unlike other tech companies, Apple hasn’t cut too many jobs in the last couple of years. The likes of Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon have laid off thousands of employees in the last couple of years. The tech industry has seen thousands of job cuts in 2024 as well.

Earlier this year, Apple shuttered down its car project and it was reported that hundreds of workers were laid off. Apple hasn’t commented on the recent job cuts.
