FeaturesThe update will introduce systemwide Writing Tools for text rewriting and proofreading, Image Playground for AI-generated images, and Genmoji for personalized emojis. Users will also receive features like Priority Messages in Mail and enhanced photo search.
Additionally, the update will integrate ChatGPT into Siri and Writing Tools, enabling direct interactions with OpenAI’s language model. Apple ensures privacy by obscuring IP addresses and offering optional account connectivity.
AI processing and privacyApple Intelligence operates using a combination of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, which the company states is designed for user privacy. Apple claims that its cloud-based processing undergoes cryptographic verification and independent oversight to ensure data security.
Apple Intelligence was initially launched with iOS 18 in US English. The expansion to India and other regions marks Apple’s effort to bring its AI features to a wider audience. The company has not yet announced a timeline for additional language support beyond this rollout.
The features will be free for users and will be automatically available on compatible devices after the iOS 18.4 update is installed.
