Apple iOS 18.2

Apple has rolled the first developer beta of iOS 18.2, bringing a host of new  AI features and enhancements. Among the standout additions are Visual Intelligence, ChatGPT integration, and advanced image generation tools. The iOS 18.2 beta comes days ahead of Apple's expected roll out of iOS 18.1, which will give public the first taste of Apple's AI features.

Visual Intelligence

Visual Intelligence is a powerful new feature available exclusively on the iPhone 16 series. By long-pressing the Camera Control button, users can access a new viewfinder that allows them to snap photos and receive detailed information about objects and locations in real-time. This feature leverages AI to identify objects, provide descriptions, and even read text aloud, making it a valuable tool for accessibility.

ChatGPT Integration

In a much-awaited move, Apple has integrated ChatGPT into Siri, enabling users to ask complex questions that Siri alone might not be able to handle. For instance, users can request Siri to create itineraries, summarise articles, or generate images, with ChatGPT handling the more intricate tasks. This integration is optional and requires user consent, ensuring privacy and control over data usage.

Image Generation Tools

iOS 18.2 introduces several creative image generation tools, including Image Playground and Genmoji. Image Playground — a separate app — allows users to create custom images from text prompts, while Genmoji enables the creation of personalised emojis. Additionally, the Image Wand feature transforms rough sketches into polished images, enhancing the creative capabilities of the Notes app.

Other features

The iOS 18.2 beta also includes updates to the Mail app, with new categories for organising emails and larger images for contacts and businesses. The Control Center has been updated with a quick access option for typing to Siri, streamlining interactions. Also, in Settings there is a new Default Apps option, which allows users to change messaging, email, browsing apps of their choice.

Do keep in mind that all these features are in the beta version. So unless you are enrolled in Apple's developer beta program, these features won't be available.
