AI company Anthropic has introduced a new product called Cowork, a new mode in the Claude Desktop app that trains its AI assistant to automate common programming tasks. Basically, the tool can read, edit and reorganise files, taking on many of the same tasks Claude Code can, but with more advanced functionalities. Interestingly, Cowork has been written pretty much fully by Claude Code, which means it’s completely made using AI.
Claude’s Cowork: Here’s how it works
According to a report by Engadget, the Cowork AI tool is designed as a more accessible, user-friendly version of Claude Code and is built directly into the Claude Desktop app. “You don’t need to keep manually providing context or converting Claude’s outputs into the right format. Nor do you have to wait for Claude to finish before offering further ideas or feedback: you can queue up tasks and let Claude work through them in parallel,” Anthropic said.
Basically, the Cowork tool allows users to assign a specific folder that Claude can read from or modify, with instructions provided through a standard chat interface. This means Claude users can link to external data and create documents, presentations, and other files without inputting manual context, with queries queued up in the system. Further, this AI tool also works on browsers with Google Chrome.
