Android to iPhone file transfer

Google has announced that Android and iPhone users can now share photos, videos and documents seamlessly using Quick Share. The update enables Quick Share to work directly with Apple’s AirDrop, allowing cross-platform file transfer for the first time. The rollout begins with the Pixel 10 family and will reach more Android devices in the coming months.

How the cross-platform file transfer works

Quick Share now communicates with AirDrop when the two devices are in proximity. Users can initiate a transfer from either platform, and the receiving device will show a standard prompt to accept the file. The process supports media files, documents and other commonly shared formats. According to Google, the system was designed with multiple security layers and underwent external security testing to ensure data protection during transfer.

Security and compatibility

Google states that the new system includes safeguards to prevent unwanted file sharing and restricts visibility settings to trusted contacts or nearby users. The company has highlighted that this integration follows earlier steps toward improving cross-platform communication, including RCS support and alerts for unknown trackers. The feature currently works on Pixel 10 models and will expand across the wider Android ecosystem once device makers integrate the updated protocol.

Availability and future plans

The rollout begins globally for Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro users. Other Android brands are expected to receive support later through software updates. Google says it plans to improve transfer speeds, expand supported file types and make the feature consistent across manufacturers. The company also shared a demonstration of the feature running on the Pixel 10 Pro, encouraging users to test the capability once available on their devices.
