Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has found some serious security flaws within the Android operating system. According to the advisory, these security flaws within Android can let attackers execute arbitrary code on the targetted system. It is also worth noting that the government body has marked these vulnerabilities as “High” Severity.
Android smartphones and tablets affected
As per the report, Android smartphones and tablets running Android versions 12, 12L, 13, 14 and 15 are affected by this security flaw. This means, if you happen to have a smartphone or tablet with the above-mentioned versions, your device is affected by the vulnerabilities found within Android.
Why these vulnerabilities exist
“These vulnerabilities exist in Android due to flaws in the Framework, System, Google Play system updates (ART and Wi-Fi subcomponent), Imagination Technologies components, MediaTek components, Qualcomm components and Qualcomm closed-source components”, reads the advisory.
What you should do
CERT-In has advised users to apply appropriate security updates on their smartphones and tablets. Do note, that Android issues monthly security updates with fixes for known bugs, security flaws and other issues.
However, it is up to OEMs to roll out these updates for their devices. So, you’ll need to check by going into Settings whether your phone has the latest security patch available or not.
