iPad users who’ve been waiting forever to scroll Instagram on a proper app might finally have something to look forward to. According to new reports, Meta — the company behind Instagram — is actively testing a dedicated Instagram app for iPads, and it could launch later this year.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that Meta employees are already using the app, and unless there are unexpected delays, it should be available to the public before the year ends.
Meta has had a Facebook app for iPads since 2011, but it has mostly ignored Apple’s tablets when it comes to other major apps. That’s starting to change now. Just last week, Meta released a version of WhatsApp designed for iPads, and now it seems like Instagram is next in line.
While users can currently access Instagram on the iPad using a web browser or the iPhone app, the experience isn’t ideal — it doesn’t make full use of the iPad’s larger screen. A native app would change that, offering smoother navigation and a better layout for photos and videos.
There’s no word yet on whether Meta will also bring Threads — its Twitter-like app — to iPads, but Instagram on iPad is already a big step forward.
So if you're someone who loves editing or browsing photos on a bigger screen, this update could be just what you’ve been waiting for. Keep an eye out — it might not be too far away.
