Giving further boost to India’s electronics manufacturing space, tech giant Apple plans to start making AirPods in the country, a report by the Times of India said on October 3.
The move comes after the US-based company shifted the production of iPhones worth billions of dollars to India in recent years, the newspaper said.

According to the report, the company will start with the manufacturing of AirPod casing at its Pune facility of US-based contract manufacturer Jabil. Thereafter, the AirPod will be manufactured at Foxconn’s new plant in Telangana, TOI said, citing sources.
Moneycontrol could not independently verify the report.
In July this year, Moneycontrol had reported that Apple may resume preparations for manufacturing iPads in India and is making efforts to increase production of components for AirPod wireless charging cases through Jabil in India.

Moneycontrol had further reported that Apple has plans to kick off production of TWS (true wireless stereo), AirPod, in India from early next year and it is making parts of wireless charging cases that are being exported to China and Vietnam.
The company shipped over 10 million iPhones in India in 2023, securing the top revenue position for the year, pipping its Korean rival Samsung, according to a report from Counterpoint Research. In 2022, it shipped over 6 million iPhones.
