Adobe’s latest wave of Creative Cloud updates brings an AI-powered assistant to Photoshop — a conversational tool that can automate repetitive tasks and help creators work faster. The Photoshop AI Assistant lets users type natural-language prompts like “brighten this image” or “resize for Instagram,” and the app executes those steps instantly. It can also suggest edits, offer tutorials, and guide users through complex workflows.
The AI Assistant works inside both Photoshop and Adobe Express, where users can switch seamlessly between text-based interaction and traditional manual tools like sliders for brightness or colour balance. When switched to what Adobe calls “agentic mode,” Photoshop’s interface simplifies into a prompt-first design, letting users focus purely on intent rather than menus.
Beyond the assistant, Adobe introduced several new AI tools that lean on both its own Firefly Image Model 5 and third-party AI systems. Generative Fill now includes support for external models such as Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext, giving users more flexibility in filling or removing objects with realistic results.
Another key upgrade is Generative Upscale, which uses Topaz Labs’ AI engine to turn cropped or low-resolution images into detailed 4K visuals. A feature called Harmonize helps place people or objects into new backgrounds while automatically matching lighting, colour, and tone — a process that previously required multiple manual layers.
Video editors aren’t left out. Adobe Premiere gains AI Object Mask, which automatically identifies and tracks people and objects without manual rotoscoping. The update also adds new masking shapes and a faster vector mask system.
Finally, Lightroom’s Assisted Culling uses AI to flag the best shots from large photo batches, ranking them by sharpness, composition and focus.
Photoshop’s new AI Assistant will roll out via private beta, while other tools — including Generative Upscale, Harmonize, and Object Mask — are available now in beta or general release.
