A blank video on YouTube is going viral for a very strange reason. According to its thumbnail, the video runs for 140 years. Yes, years. Not hours, not days. And unsurprisingly, it has left viewers across the internet completely baffled.
The video was uploaded on January 5, 2026, by a channel named @ShinyWR. Since then, it has been viewed nearly two million times and has attracted close to 28,000 comments. People are not watching it for the content, because there is none. The screen is entirely blank, there is no audio, and nothing happens even if you let it play.
Things get even more confusing once you click on it. While the thumbnail clearly shows a duration of 140 years, pressing play changes the runtime to 12 hours. Several users have pointed this out in the comments, trying to reassure others that no one is actually expected to sit through a century-long video.
The video’s description adds another layer of mystery. It is written in Arabic characters that reportedly translate to “Come, meet me in hell.” Screenshots of the video and its description quickly spread to other social media platforms, including Threads and X, where users began debating what the video could possibly be.
No clear explanation has emerged so far. Some believe the upload could be a technical glitch or a test video that accidentally went public. Others think it might be part of an alternate reality game, where creators deliberately post cryptic content to confuse and engage viewers. A few users have also noted that the channel claims to operate from North Korea and joined YouTube in July 2023, which has only added fuel to the speculation.
The 140-year video is not an isolated case on this channel. @ShinyWR has uploaded several unusually long videos before, including one lasting 294 hours and another running for over 300 hours. One user on Threads suggested it might be similar to older test channels that uploaded odd or placeholder videos during internal platform experiments.
While this runtime is extreme, YouTube has seen its fair share of marathon-length videos over the years. The longest known video on the platform stretches to 596 hours and was uploaded back in 2011. There have also been cases of very short clips artificially stretched into hours or even days.
Naturally, some viewers have taken a lighter approach. One user joked about how many ads could possibly fit into a video that long, while another simply reminded everyone that the actual playback time is only 12 hours.
For now, the blank video remains unexplained. Whether it is a glitch, a test, or an elaborate prank, it has achieved one thing for sure. It has captured the internet’s curiosity without showing a single frame of content.
