French educator and historian, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, played a significant role in bringing together several parties at the Sorbonne University in Paris on June 23, 1894, to revive the Olympic Games. The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896, with 13 countries participating in the sports.

Paris to Host the 33rd Summer Olympic Games

This month, the 33rd Summer Olympic Games will take place in the capital of France, Paris. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11, with the Paralympic Games following from August 28 to September 8, 2024.

The Paris Olympic Games will begin on July 24, featuring over 10,000 athletes competing in 329 medal events. An additional day of swimming will take place, with three highly anticipated sports – artistic gymnastics, swimming, and track – scheduled between August 3 and 4.

The Olympic Stadium: Stade de France

The largest stadium in France, Stade de France, is located in the northern suburb of Saint-Denis. It has hosted major sporting events for three decades, including the Rugby World Cups and the World Athletics Championships. This summer, it will transform into the Olympic Stadium.

Navigating Paris During the Summer Games

The best way to get around Paris during the Summer Games is via public transport. The metro system comprises 16 lines serving over 300 stations. A single metro ticket currently costs €2.10, but fares are expected to nearly double during the Games. Travellers can purchase a rechargeable Navigo pass, preloaded with journeys at a slightly lower price. Currently, a journey for 10 stations costs €22, which will increase to €32 during the Games. The Navigo Pass can be used on trains, buses, and trams.

Accommodation for Paris Olympic 2024

Visitors should book accommodation in advance, with options including Airbnb and hotel brands like ibis, Novotel, and Sofitel. The Paris je t’aime website offers information on hotels, youth hostels, and bed and breakfasts.

New Sports at the Paris Olympics 2024

The Paris Olympics 2024 will feature Breaking (Breakdancing) for the first time, scheduled for August 9 and 10. Additionally, Sport Climbing, Skateboarding, and Surfing will make their debut at this year's Games.
