WTC 2025-27 updated points table: India didn't get off to a desirable start in the brand new cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. Despite dominating majority of the Headingley Test against England, India failed to defend a staggering 371-run target and lost the match by five wickets. The outcome pushed England to 12 points and as per the current standings, the Three Lions are positioned second on the nine-team points table. It is a five-match series and we hope that India turn things around as the contest progresses.

Meanwhile, one-time champion and previous edition's runners-up Australia also made significant progress. Still fresh from the crushing WTC final loss against South Africa, the Pat Cummins-led unit started their Caribbean tour with a thumping 159-run win against the West Indies. However, the contest was marred with DRS howlers one after the other. "We're all humans. Mistakes will be made. I just want fairness," reacted West Indies head coach Darren Sammy to the umpiring howlers. Sammy also met with match referee Javagal Srinath to seek clarification.

Irrespective of the contentious decisions, Australia are leading 1-0 in the three-match series and are at the top of the points table.

There was some red ball action in the sub-continent as well between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka being played in the island nation. It was a two-match series and while the first ended in a draw, Sri Lanka won the second and final Test by an innings and 78 runs. They are placed third on the table.

Meanwhile, the first Test played at Galle, which ended in a draw, was the final appearance of veteran Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews in the traditional format. Mathews, who made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2009, has been a cornerstone of Sri Lankan cricket for over 15 years, excelling as both an all-rounder and a leader. Aggregating 8214 in 119 matches, he is only behind Kumar Sangakkara (12,400) and Mahela Jayawardena (11,814) for most Test runs by a Sri Lankan. He also proved handy with the ball with 33 wickets to his name.
