The Pakistani team, captained by Mohammed Rizwan, was fined 5% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in Wednesday's second ODI in Hamilton. The sanction was given by Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after it was determined that the visiting team had fallen one over short of the target after accounting for time allowances.
Players are penalized five percent of their match fees for each over in which their team fails to bowl within the allotted time, according to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which regulates minimum over-rate offenses.
There was no need for a formal hearing because Skipper Rizwan entered a guilty plea to the offense and accepted the punishment.
Third umpire Paul Reiffel, fourth umpire Chris Brown, and on-field umpires Michael Gough and Wayne Knights all leveled the charge.
Pakistan has been penalized for a slow over-rate for the second time in a row.
When time allowances were taken into account, the team was two overs short of the target in the first ODI against New Zealand at Napier, which the visitors lost by 73 runs. The Kiwis took a 2-0 series lead with an 84-run victory in the second ODI.
Mitchell Hay scored a career-best unbeaten 99 to help the hosts post 292/8 in their 50 overs. Ben Sears registered career-best figures of 5/59 as Pakistan were bundled out for 208 runs in 41.2 overs.
The third and final ODI of the series scheduled for Saturday at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. Pakistan had lost the five-match T20I series 1-4 that was held prior to the ODI series.
