After an exciting Test series in England, which ended in a 2-2 draw, the next assignment for Team India is the Asia Cup 2025, which gets underway from September 9 in the UAE with India as the host. While there have been plenty of chatter around the tournament, mostly due to prevailing tensions with neighbours Pakistan, which has significantly escalated post the attack in Pahalgam.
While there have been voices urging BCCI to forfeit the clash but as of now there have no official word if that will be the case. India and Pakistan can meet potentially thrice during the course of the tournament.
Instead a latest development suggest that the squad for the continental showdown will be announced on August 19 in Mumbai. This was reported by the Times Of India, which also stated that skipper Suryakumar Yadav will be travelling to Mumbai for the same. India's T20I skipper is currently at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru undergoing rehab following a sports hernia surgery. He has started batting in the nets, which should quash any doubts of him not being available for the tournament.
"Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar," a BCCI source was quoted as saying in the report.

The source further revealed that the focus is on the existing T20I squad before adding notable names such as Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer are unlikely to make the cut.
"In fact, with India looking to persist with the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, Gill is currently struggling to even make it to the side. Even Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a great series in England, and middle-order bat Shreyas Iyer are likely not to be picked for the T20 side. Jaiswal has been told by the selectors to focus on red-ball cricket," the source revealed.
