Mumbai wins Ranji Trophy after 8 years

Mumbai's cricket team clinched the Ranji Trophy for an unprecedented 42nd time by defeating Vidarbha in the final match. The victory came as Mumbai set a challenging target of 538 runs for Vidarbha to chase on the third day of the match. Despite Vidarbha's determined efforts, they faltered, losing their last five wickets for just 15 runs.

On the final day of the match, Vidarbha needed 298 runs to win with five wickets in hand. Their batsmen, Akshay Wadkar and Harsh Dubey, put up a resilient front in the first session, frustrating Mumbai's bowlers. Wadkar, in particular, showcased commendable performance, reaching his century soon after lunch. However, Mumbai's Tanush Kotian broke the partnership by dismissing Wadkar, leading to a collapse in Vidarbha's batting lineup.

Ultimately, Vidarbha succumbed to Mumbai's bowling attack, managing to add only 15 runs in five overs before being bowled out, resulting in a 169-run victory for Mumbai. Dhawal Kulkarni, in his final match before retirement, secured the last wicket, sealing Mumbai's historic triumph in the Ranji Trophy.
