The incident took place in Indore on Thursday when a motorcycle-borne man touched a player inappropriately when they were headed to a cafe. Indore is one of the four venues of the marquee tournament. An FIR was lodged and after swift action by the authority the accused was subsequently put behind the bars by the Indore police.
The BCCI condemned the incident and Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar too has reacted on the matter. Expressing disappointment on the news, Gavaskar in an interaction with India Today said: “To hear of this is very, very sad. I think because we are famous for Atithi Devo Bhava.”
"It is, without question, a heinous incident. The law will take its course, but I do hope that the guilty person is punished severely - you lock them up and throw away the key. That's the only way, I think. Just lock him up and throw the keys away," he added.
