Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma put up a brave fight with a 63-ball 105* against the Chennai Super Kings in Wankhede on Sunday. Mumbai lost the match by 20 runs leaving an emotional Rohit Sharma on the field.

Amid a lack of support from the middle-order batsmen, this became the first instance in 18 times that Rohit could not steer Mumbai Indians home despite being unbeaten till the end.

A heartbroken Rohit Sharma was consoled by ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni who walked up to him, gave him a hug with a pat on the back. Both were seen exchanging pleasantries after the match was over.

Social media was abuzz as CSK former skipper’s gesture for Rohit Sharma won millions of hearts.

Chennai Super Kings clinched a 20-run victory over the Mumbai Indians, despite Rohit Sharma's century for the latter. This clash of titans marked Chennai's pivotal win, securing their first away points and marking their fourth victory in six matches. Matheesha Pathirana's exceptional bowling display dismantled Mumbai's batting lineup, grabbing four wickets, with support from Tushar Deshpande and Mustafizur Rahman, who each claimed one wicket each.

Mumbai Indians' defeat to Chennai was disheartening as they faltered after a promising start. Despite a strong beginning with the bat, they failed to capitalize, allowing Chennai to set a formidable target of 206 runs. Rohit Sharma's century and contributions from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma fell short as they stumbled in the crucial final overs. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten.

Matheesha Pathirana, the Sri Lankan fast bowler, shone with a four-wicket haul as Chennai Super Kings secured a 20-run triumph over the Mumbai Indians, despite Rohit Sharma's unbeaten century. Earlier in the CSK batting, Shivam Dube and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad played valuable knocks to end with Dhoni's blitz of unbeaten 20 runs off 4 balls including three sixes.
