ICC Champions Trophy FAQs

A total of eight teams divided in two groups will take part in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Group A features hosts Pakistan, New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, who’ll also kick-off the tournament. South Africa, Australia, England, and Afghanistan are clubbed in Group B.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to start from February 19 and it’ll be played in Pakistan and Dubai as per the proposed hybrid model. Pakistan, the original hosts, will kick-off the tournament against New Zealand on February 19 and India will start their campaign against Bangladesh the following day. If we look at the groups, India are pooled alongside Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. South Africa, England, Afghanistan, and Australia are clubbed in the other.

Who will host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025?

Pakistan are the original hosts of the marquee ICC tournament but after BCCI’s refusal to not send the team across the border led to a hybrid model. India refused to visit Pakistan for the tournament citing security concern and will now play all their matches in Dubai.

The other seven teams will play their matches across three cities in Pakistan – Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, and whenever they have a clash against India the team travels to Dubai.

When is the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 starting?

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 gets underway from February 19 and will conclude on March 9. Pakistan kick-off the tournament against New Zealand and then India start the campaign the next day. It’ll be followed by another intense tie, which will see Australia and England cross paths in Lahore on February 22 and the blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan will be played on February 23.

The final group stage encounter will be played on March 2, when India take on New Zealand and then we have the knock-outs. The semifinals are scheduled for March 4 and 5 and the final takes place on March 9.

How many ICC Champions Trophy won by India?

India have won the ICC Champions Trophy twice previously with the last title being in 2013. Then MS Dhoni-led India had achieved the feat by beating England in the final, which was a low-scoring affair. Interestingly, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, who are part of the current India setup, were part of the squad and will hope to repeat the feat again in Dubai.

The first time India won the tournament was back in 2002 when India were declared the joint winners with Sri Lanka. The finals between the two countries were played twice but both of them were abandoned due to rain, forcing ICC to declare both teams as joint winners.
