The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday lodged a formal protest during the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting regarding the conduct of ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi at the 2025 Asia Cup final in Dubai. According to CNN-News18, BCCI representatives ensured that Naqvi extended his congratulations to Team India for clinching the championship.

India’s representation at the meeting included BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla and former treasurer Ashish Shelar, both of whom serve on the ACC board. The duo pressed Naqvi to promptly hand over the Asia Cup trophy to the ACC headquarters in Dubai. They also cautioned the Pakistan delegation that the matter could be escalated to the International Cricket Council (ICC), which is scheduled to hold a meeting in November.

Shukla in the Executive Board Member for BCCI on the ACC Board and Shelar is BCCI’s Ex-Officio Board Member. Shelar even boycotted the meeting midway in protest of the ACC chief.

As reported earlier, the Indian side is of the view that Mohsin Naqvi took the Asia Cup trophy with him during the post-match presentation ceremony at the final, effectively keeping it in his personal custody.

"India raised strong objection in the ACC meeting today on not handing over of the trophy and the drama by ACC chairman (Naqvi) during the post-match award event," an ACC source told PTI.

"Shuklaji categorically said that the trophy should be handed over to the winning team. It is an ACC trophy and doesn't belong to an individual, he said," the source added.

However, the source said Naqvi "still hasn't agreed to give the trophy."
