Due to a groin injury sustained in Pakistan, Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam will be absent from this month's two-Test series in India, the country's cricket board announced on Thursday. Following their historic victory in Pakistan, where Bangladesh won both Tests for the first time, the team was looking forward to the series against their Asian rivals.
The 23-year-old Shoriful, who claimed three wickets in the first Test in Rawalpindi, was sidelined due to injury and could not participate in the second Test.
"Left-arm paceman Shoriful Islam is still recovering from a groin injury and was unavailable for the series," the Bangladesh Cricket Board stated, according to Reuters, after naming a 16-member squad for the India tour.
While Litton Das is anticipated to continue as the wicketkeeper after his match-winning century in the second Test against Pakistan, Jaker Ali Anik has been included as the backup wicketkeeper.
The first Test in Chennai is set to begin on September 19, with the second Test starting in Kanpur on September 27.
India is currently ranked seven places above Bangladesh in the ICC Test rankings and leads the World Test Championship standings.
Following the series against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma's India will play three home Tests against New Zealand before travelling to Australia for a five-match Test series.
