Ugadi 2025 Today: Telugu Year Name, Muhurat Timings, Rituals, Mantras, Do's and Don'ts

Ugadi 2025: Ugadi or Yugadi is celebrated as the first day of the year by people of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. On this day, a new Samvatsara, which is a cycle of sixty years, begins. Each Samvatsara has a unique name.

Ugadi is celebrated as Gudi Padwa by the people of Maharashtra. Both Ugadi and Gudi Padwa are observed on the same day.

Ugadi marks the new year according to the Luni-Solar calendar, which considers the positions of the Moon and Sun to divide the year into months and days. In contrast, the Solar calendar considers only the Sun's position. Due to these differences, the Hindu new year is celebrated at different times of the year with various names, such as Puthandu in Tamil Nadu, Bihu in Assam, Vaisakhi in Punjab, Pana Sankranti in Odisha, and Naba Barsha in West Bengal.

The day begins with a ritual oil bath followed by prayers. Taking an oil bath and consuming Neem leaves are considered essential rituals according to scriptures. While North Indians do not celebrate Ugadi, they begin Chaitra Navratri Puja on the same day and consume Neem with Mishri.
