The renowned Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai has announced a new dress code, urging devotees to wear modest, body-covering clothing while visiting the holy site. According to the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Trust (SSGTT), the dress code is being implemented to maintain the sanctity and decorum of the temple premises.
Starting next week, visitors will no longer be permitted to wear torn jeans, short skirts, or revealing attire within the temple. The trust has encouraged devotees to opt for Indian attire or other decent clothing that respects the cultural and spiritual essence of the temple.
This decision comes after the temple authorities received numerous complaints from devotees about inappropriate attire being worn in the sacred space. Many felt that certain clothing choices were disrespectful to the temple's atmosphere and values.
The notice issued by the trust specifically mentions that "devotees wearing trousers with cuts or torn fabric, short skirts, or clothing that exposes body parts will not be allowed entry." The trust has clarified that the move aims to ensure all visitors feel comfortable and respected during their spiritual experience.
“We received repeated requests from devotees to implement a dress code that aligns with the sanctity of the temple,” an official from the trust stated. The step is intended to uphold the traditions and cultural heritage associated with the temple while fostering an environment of mutual respect.
The Siddhivinayak Temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, attracts thousands of devotees daily, making it one of Mumbai’s most visited spiritual landmarks. The introduction of the dress code is expected to encourage visitors to approach their worship with added reverence and mindfulness.
