Rituals and Benefits of Worship
Worshipping Goddess Shodashi brings harmony to family life, strengthens inner discipline, and grants control over the senses. Devotees often engage in Shri Vidya Sadhana, a spiritual practice that offers both material and spiritual fulfilment. In Tantric scriptures, the Goddess is depicted as Panchavaktra, or five-faced. Each of these faces represents different aspects of Lord Shiva and carries a unique colour: - Tatpurusha – Green
- Sadyojata – Red
- Vamadeva – Smoke
- Aghora – Blue
- Ishana – Yellow
Her divine presence manifests in four forms: Sukshma (subtle), Sthula (physical), Para (supreme), and Turiya (transcendental). It is believed that those who take refuge in her are no different from divinity itself. Significance of Shodashi JayantiAccording to legend, Lord Shiva revealed the secrets of Shri Vidya Sadhana to Goddess Parvati when she sought liberation from worldly sufferings, including the pain of childbirth and death. Worshipping Goddess Shodashi is said to offer ultimate salvation. The practice of invoking Shodashi as Shri Vidya was further popularised by Adi Guru Shankaracharya. Today, her worship remains central to many spiritual traditions, symbolised through the revered Shri Yantra. The Mythological Story of Goddess LalitaOnce, the celestial nymphs visited Mount Kailasha, where Lord Shiva inadvertently addressed Goddess Parvati as "Kali". Feeling insulted, Parvati resolved to shed her dark complexion and transform into a fair and radiant form. When she disappeared to meditate in the northern region of Sumeru Mountain, Lord Shiva was left distraught. Narad Muni intervened and convinced Parvati to return to Kailasha. She reappeared in her most resplendent form, earning the name Tripurasundari – the most beautiful in the three worlds.Upon her return, she saw her reflection in Lord Shiva's heart, which he confirmed was an embodiment of her divine beauty. Thus, she came to be known as Shodashi, the eternally sixteen-year-old Goddess.
