Rohini Vrat 2024: Significance

Rohini Vrat is observed on the day when Rohini Nakshatra prevails after sunrise. According to belief, those who undertake this fast are blessed with prosperity, happiness, and relief from all kinds of troubles. It is considered especially auspicious for the wellbeing and longevity of one’s spouse, particularly in Jain tradition. This vrat is typically observed for a duration of three, five, or seven years, with the ideal period being five years and five months. After completing this period, the fast is concluded with a special ceremony known as Udyapana.

Rohini Vrat 2024: Rituals

  • Fasting from Sunrise: Women begin their fast at sunrise when Rohini Nakshatra prevails, abstaining from food and water throughout the day.
  • Prayers for Husband’s Wellbeing: Devotees offer prayers for the long life, health, and prosperity of their husbands during the day.
  • Abstaining from Food and Water: Many observe a strict fast without consuming food or water until the fast is broken.
  • Breaking the Fast (Parana): The fast is broken when Margashirsha Nakshatra begins, marking the end of Rohini Nakshatra.
  • Continuous Observance: Rohini Vrat is usually observed for three, five, or seven years continuously, with the most common period being five years and five months.
  • Udyapana Ceremony: The fast concludes with the Udyapana ceremony after the completion of the designated period.

Rohini Vrat is an important festival that holds immense significance for married women, especially in the Jain community. The fast is undertaken with great devotion and faith, seeking blessings for the family's happiness, health, and prosperity.
