Phalgun Month 2025: Start Date, Rituals & What You Should and Shouldn’t Do

Phalgun month also known as Falgun Maas or Phalguna Masam is the 12th and final month in the traditional Hindu calendar. In 2025, Phalgun month begins on February 13 and ends on March 14, as per the North Indian Hindu calendar. This calendar is followed in regions such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

However, according to the Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, and Gujarati calendars, Phalguna Masam starts on February 28 and ends on March 29, 2025. This difference arises because regional calendars calculate the month slightly differently.

Significance of Phalgun Month

Phalgun month holds great religious and cultural importance as it marks the conclusion of the Hindu year in the Shalivahana Shaka calendar. The first day following Amavasya (New Moon) in Phalguna Masam heralds the beginning of the Hindu New Year in Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi calendars. This occasion is celebrated as Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, and as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra.
