Naina Devi Temple Nainital: Why this sacred site is so Powerful – Aarti timings, History, Location & more

Why Naina Devi Temple in Nainital: Nestled beside the scenic Naini Lake, Naina Devi Temple in Nainital is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths and a revered Hindu pilgrimage site. It’s believed to mark the spot where Goddess Sati’s eyes fell, symbolizing divine vision and spiritual power. This temple is not only a religious destination but also a major tourist attraction due to its location, history, and architecture.

Importance of Naina Devi Temple

According to Hinduism when Sati self-immolated during Daksha's Yagna, Lord Vishnu scattered her body into 51 parts. Her eyes (Nayan) are believed to have fallen here, giving the temple its name. The main shrine houses two eyes as the deity, alongside idols of Goddess Kali and Lord Ganesha. The temple complex includes a sacred Peepal tree and guardian lion statues. As you walk in, Lord Hanuman stands as a protector, and inside the sanctum are the symbolic eyes of Naina Devi, flanked by other deities. The majestic backdrop of the Himalayas and Mt. Nanda Devi adds to the temple's divine ambiance.
