Mohini Ekadashi 2025 Date: When is Mohini Ekadashi vrat this month - May 7 or May 8?

Devotees observing Mohini Ekadashi fast this year should mark Thursday, May 8, 2025, on their calendar. This sacred occasion, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, falls on the Ekadashi Tithi during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of the Hindu month of Vaishakha. It is considered highly auspicious for seeking blessings, spiritual upliftment, and freedom from past sins.

The Parana, or the ritual of breaking the fast, must be done the following day — Friday, May 9, 2025, during the prescribed time from 05:35 AM to 08:17 AM. Following the proper Parana timing is crucial, as delaying it beyond the Dwadashi Tithi (12th lunar day) is considered spiritually improper and equivalent to disregarding the fast’s sanctity.

Why Parana Timing Matters?

Parana should never be done during Hari Vasara, which is the first quarter of the Dwadashi Tithi. Devotees are advised to wait for this period to end and then perform the fast-breaking ritual during the Pratahkal (early morning). Midday (Madhyahna) is considered inauspicious for Parana. If Pratahkal is missed, one may break the fast after Madhyahna but before Dwadashi ends.

Two-Day Ekadashi Observance: What You Should Know

Occasionally, Ekadashi fasting is recommended on two consecutive days. In such cases:

  • Smartha devotees (those who follow general Hindu traditions and live with families) should observe the fast on the first day.
  • The second day, known as Vaishnava Ekadashi, is traditionally followed by sanyasis, widows, and those who seek Moksha (liberation).

Devotees deeply devoted to Lord Vishnu and who observe strict practices may fast on both days for greater spiritual merit.

Significance of Mohini Ekadashi

Mohini Ekadashi is named after the enchantress form of Lord Vishnu – Mohini – who appeared to distribute Amrit (divine nectar) during the Samudra Manthan (cosmic ocean churning). The fast is believed to purify the mind, remove negativity, and bring divine grace. It holds special importance for those seeking peace, prosperity, and spiritual awakening.
