Significance of Masik Shivaratri

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a Linga on the midnight of Maha Shivaratri. This divine appearance marked the beginning of Shiva worship, which continues to hold immense importance. Masik Shivaratri is an occasion for devotees to seek blessings, overcome difficulties, and connect spiritually with Lord Shiva.

Rituals and Fasting Guide

  • Fasting: Devotees observe a strict fast, consuming only fruits, milk, and water. Many remain awake all night, offering prayers and performing rituals.
  • Shiva Puja: Special pujas are conducted during Nishita Kaal (midnight) to honour Lord Shiva. Devotees offer milk, honey, and Bilva leaves to the Shiva Linga.
  • Chanting and Meditation: Chanting the "Om Namah Shivaya" mantra and meditating are important practices to purify the mind and soul.

Observing Masik Shivaratri fasts throughout the year is believed to bring peace, prosperity, and fulfilment of desires. It is also highly auspicious for unmarried women seeking a suitable match and married women praying for harmony in their marital lives.

Devotees are encouraged to make donations and perform acts of charity on this day, enhancing the spiritual merit of their observances.
