Janmashtami 2025 on August 16: Janmashtami Puja Vidhi, Bhog List and Mantras

Significance of Nishita Puja

The Nishita Kaal Puja is the most important part of Janmashtami, as it marks the exact midnight birth hour of Lord Krishna. Devotees perform Shodashopachara Puja Vidhi, offering 16 ritual steps along with Vedic mantras. The worship includes Abhishekam (ritual bathing of Krishna idol), adorning Him with new clothes, offering sweets, fruits, and butter, and singing devotional songs.

Across India, temples are beautifully decorated, Bhajan and Kirtan programs are held, and the atmosphere is filled with chants of "Hare Krishna Hare Rama". The next day’s Dahi Handi marks Krishna’s playful childhood of stealing butter, with teams competing to break the pot hung high above the ground.
