Jyeshtha Purnima Upavasa 2025 Date: When is Purnima Vrat? Know Moonrise time and more

This significant vrat (fast) is observed on the full moon day (Purnima Tithi) of the Shukla Paksha every month in the Hindu lunar calendar. In 2025, Jyeshtha Purnima Upavasa falls on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 and devotees will observe the vrat with full devotion, seeking blessings for happiness, health, and spiritual growth. The Purnima Vrat, especially during Jyeshtha month, is regarded as highly auspicious and spiritually cleansing.

What is Jyeshtha Purnima Upavasa?

The Purnima Vrat, also called Dvatrimshi Purnima Vrat, is described in ancient texts like the Bhavishya Purana, and is believed to purify the soul and bring divine grace. According to the tradition, the vrat is ideally started in the full moon of Margashirsha, Magha, or Vaishakha and completed in the Purnima of Bhadrapada or Pausha.

This Purnima is also sacred for Lord Vishnu and Chandra Dev (Moon God) worship. On this day, Chandra Dev appears in his fullest, brightest form, and offering Arghya to him is believed to grant peace of mind and relief from mental and emotional stress.

Purnima Vrat Vidhi (Step-by-Step Rituals)

  • Morning Puja and Sankalpa
  • Take a holy bath in a river or at home with Gangajal.
  • Perform Tarpan for ancestors.
  • Take a vow (Sankalpa): “I am observing this vrat for family welfare, happiness, and peace.”

Main Puja Rituals

  • Kalash Sthapana and worship Lord Ganesha.
  • Conduct Shodashopachara Puja for Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
  • Offer prayers to Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, and Chandra Dev.
  • Spend the day in bhajans, mantra chanting, and listening to Purnima Vrat Katha.
  • Perform Satyanarayan Puja, which is considered highly auspicious.

Evening Rituals and Breaking the Fast

  • After moonrise, offer Arghya (water offering) to Chandra Dev.
  • Donate essentials like clothes, sesame, ghee, rice, and fruits to Brahmins.
  • Serve food to Brahmins and break your fast with fruits or milk-based foods.

Purnima Fasting Food Guidelines

  • Eat light vegetarian food, preferably fruits and milk.
  • Avoid grains, lentils, spices, tea, coffee, and tobacco.
  • Some devotees observe a nirjala (waterless) fast, while others follow a phalahar (fruit-based) fast.

By observing Jyeshtha Purnima Vrat with sincerity, one moves closer to spiritual fulfillment and family prosperity. The rituals followed on this day are more than tradition—they are a path to peace and divine connection.
