The idol of Lalbaugcha Raja was revealed On August 24, showing Lord Ganesha seated beautifully on his grand throne. The divine presence of Lord Ganesha at the Lalbaugcha pandal has already begun drawing large crowds eager to seek his blessings.
Ganesh Chaturthi will begin on August 27, 2025, and continue until September 2. During these 10 days devotees across India will welcome Ganpati idols into their homes, offer prayers, perform rituals and visit pandals like Lalbaugcha Raja to celebrate the birth of Lord Ganesha.
History of Lalbaugcha Raja
The revered Lalbaugcha Raja idol has been managed by the Kambli family for over eight decades. Established in 1934 by the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal at Putlabai Chawl, this pandal has grown into one of the most prominent Ganeshotsav sites in India. Over the years Lalbaugcha Raja has earned its reputation as the most famous Ganpati in Mumbai, often considered a wish-fulfilling deity by devotees.
Ganesh Chaturthi Festival 2025
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi, is one of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals. It marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and harbinger of prosperity. The festival lasts for 10 days, filled with rituals, fasting, preparation of sweets like modak, cultural programs and devotional singing. The celebrations conclude with Ganesh Visarjan where idols are immersed in water bodies amidst chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya.

Ganeshotsav in Mumbai
Mumbai remains the epicenter of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, hosting nearly 14,000 Ganesh mandals out of which 8,000 are registered. The Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Samanvay Samiti, in coordination with civic bodies and police, oversees the smooth functioning of these pandals every year.
Recognizing its cultural significance, the Maharashtra government has granted ‘state festival’ status to Ganeshotsav. However, some Ganesh mandals expressed concerns over not being included in the decision-making process, stressing that they contribute significantly to social welfare throughout the year.
