This holy day marks the fourth Monday of the auspicious Shravan month for states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Simultaneously, today is also observed as the Second Shravan Somwar Vrat in southern and western states, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Significance of Shravan Somwar Vrat

The Shravan Somwar Vrat holds immense significance for devotees of Lord Shiva, as it is believed that fasting on this day brings blessings, fulfillment of wishes, and spiritual growth. The month of Shravan, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is considered one of the holiest months in the Hindu calendar.

Shravan Somwar Vrat Fasting Tips and Rituals

Fasting: Devotees usually observe a strict fast, consuming only fruits, water, and milk. Some may also opt for a partial fast by eating a single meal in the evening.

Morning Puja: The day typically begins with a ritualistic puja, where devotees offer milk, honey, bel leaves, and other sacred items to a Shiva Linga.

Chanting Mantras: Reciting the ‘Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra’ or ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ is a common practice during the vrat, believed to invoke divine blessings.

Visiting Temples: Many devotees visit Shiva temples to offer prayers and seek the deity’s blessings for health, prosperity, and spiritual well-being.
