She manifests as a widow, clad in soiled garments, aboard a horseless carriage adorned with a banner that bears the Crow of Death. Her eyes blaze red, reminiscent of the piercing rays of the sun. Dhumavati is linked with destitution and disturbances that impact the physical and emotional realms of existence.

Dhumavati Jayanti Puja Rituals:

• Wake up early, perform a sacred bath, and cleanse both the house and the puja room. Then, position an idol of Goddess Durga upon a wooden plank.
• Light a diya using desi ghee, offer red flowers, and serve bhog prasad consisting of Halwa, Chana, and Poori.
• Recite the Durga Saptashati, chant Devi mantras, and perform the aarti.
• In the evening, follow the same rituals and conclude your fast with sattvik food.

Significance:

Goddess Dhumavati, one of the ten Mahavidyas, is celebrated on this day. Devotees offer prayers to seek her blessings. She is venerated for bestowing siddhis (spiritual powers) and is held in high esteem by sadhus and tantriks.

• ॐ धूमावत्यै विद्महे संहारिण्यै धीमहि तन्नो धूमा प्रचोदयात्॥ Om Dhumavatyai Vidmahe Samharinyai Dhimahi Tanno Dhuma Prachodayat.
