The Chamarajanagar district administration has begun preparations for the renowned Ashadha car festival at the Chamarajeshwara Temple. Scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2024, in this revered event, newlyweds perform special pujas for the deity, and a splendidly decorated chariot is drawn through the streets, accompanied by chants, music, and celebrations. This lively festivity draws attendees from the districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, and even from the adjacent state of Tamil Nadu.

The festival, not held from 2017 to 2022 due to an incident where the old chariot was set on fire, has seen a revival with a newly constructed chariot costing Rs 1.20 crore. For the past three years, the festival has been held using this teak wood chariot. The Chamarajeshwara Temple, with a rich history spanning 200 years, is unique in conducting car festivals during the month of Ashadha. This year, the chariot preparations were inaugurated by former minister and MLA CS Puttarangashetty, ensuring a smooth and successful celebration.
