Annakut 2025: Annakut this year will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 22, it marks the auspicious day after Diwali when Lord Krishna defeated Indra. Also known as Govardhan Puja, this day holds great religious and cultural significance in Hindu traditions. It is observed during Pratipada Tithi of the Kartik month, though sometimes the celebration may fall a day earlier on Amavasya depending on the lunar calendar.

Annakut 2025 Date and Time 

Annakut, meaning “mountain of food,” is celebrated by preparing a large variety of dishes made from wheat, rice, gram flour, and leafy vegetables. These offerings are made to Lord Krishna to express gratitude for blessings, prosperity, and protection. The ritual emphasizes devotion, abundance, and community celebration.

Regional Observances

In Maharashtra, the same day is celebrated as Bali Pratipada or Bali Padva, commemorating Lord Vishnu’s Vamana Avatar and the legendary King Bali’s visit from Patala Lok to Prithvi Lok.

For Gujarati families, Govardhan Puja coincides with the Gujarati New Year, celebrated on Shukla Paksha Pratipada of Kartik month. Depending on the Pratipada timing, the celebrations may occur a day earlier than the New Year.

Devotees perform Annakut Puja by arranging and offering food to the deities, chanting mantras, and seeking blessings for wealth, health, and prosperity. This festival strengthens cultural values, devotion, and community bonding.
