Elon Musk, the head of Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Donald Trump’s second administration, was reportedly eyeing an office space inside the Oval Office, West Wing of the White House. However, President Trump has since clarified that Musk will have his own separate office, not part of the Oval Office.
During a press briefing on Saturday, January 25, when asked if Elon Musk has an office in the West Wing, President Trump firmly responded, "No, no, not – it’s not Elon’s office.”
"We have an office that's set up for purposes of - when I do an executive order, that the order is carried out, not that it sits around for three months. And we'll have about 20 people, maybe more, working out of that office," Trump said.
Talking about the office and its function, Trump remarked, “And there's about 20 or 25 people that will be working out of that office, and it's really a "go get 'em" office to make sure it gets done. That's what that is.”
As reported by The Times, Musk’s senior leadership team will be stationed in the Eisenhower executive office building, which is part of the White House grounds but sits across the road from the main complex.
About DOGE:
In November, Trump announced the creation of DOGE to "dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies - essential to the 'Save America' Movement."
While Trump and Musk claim that $2 trillion could be saved, experts widely doubt the feasibility of this without drastic cuts to critical social services or benefits.
The Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE is not a formal government agency. According to Donald Trump, the newly formed DOGE will work closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reform. It aims to create an entrepreneurial approach to governance.
