Architecture firm SHAU Bandung has constructed a micro library with no fewer than 2,000 used plastic ice cream buckets at Taman Bima, Bima Street in Bandung (Indonesia) in a small square in a Kampung neighbourhood near the airport. The architects have used a binary code to embed a secret message into the Taman Bima Microlibrary’s facade. It aims to address the issue of declining literacy among the population of Indonesia and revive interest in reading. By offering a dedicated space where people can read, learn and have access to different media and courses, the building will act as a cultural hub in the neighbourhood. It is the first realized prototype of a series of small libraries in different locations throughout Indonesia, which the firm intends to build.
