Elon Musk says he has been sleeping at DOGE headquarters in Washington

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly living at the Department of Government Efficiency's (DOGE) headquarters in Washington D.C. The tech billionaire was appointed head of DOGE under the Trump administration in November 2024.

According to a Wired report, the Donald Trump ally has told several people that he's been sleeping at the DOGE headquarters. Turning the office to his bedroom is part of his efforts to exert greater control over the federal government. DOGE is based out of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, located very close to the White House.

Musk told associates at an exclusive black-tie dinner that he's been invited to spend the night in the Lincoln Bedroom of the White House. However, it's not the first time the Tesla CEO has made headlines for his extreme work ethic.

Earlier, he was known for sleeping on the factory floor during hectic periods at Tesla. "It was my primary residence," he claimed during an interview with Ron Baron in 2022. "This is important because if the team thinks their leader is off somewhere having a good time, drinking Mai Tais on a tropical island, which I definitely could have been doing ... since the team could see me sleeping on the floor during shift change, they knew I was there, and that made a huge difference, they gave it their all," Musk had said.

Trump announced the creation of DOGE in November 2024 to "dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies - essential to the 'Save America' Movement."

The Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE is not a formal government agency. The department is working closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reform. It aims to create an entrepreneurial approach to governance.

The acronym 'DOGE' is a nod to Elon Musk's favorite cryptocurrency, Dogecoin.
