Speaking at artificial intelligence (AI) Action summit in France, US Vice President JD Vance outlining Trump administration's vision for emerging technologies said that America will put the interests of its people and workers in the forefront of this tech revolution. He categorically stated that such technologies will not play a disruptive role in future.
Underlining Trump administration's approach towards AI, he said that the regime will ensure that AI models are not ideologically biased and one that enables American citizens to access such models without any hindrance.
Vance’s address challenged Europe’s regulatory approach to artificial intelligence and its moderation of content on Big Tech platforms, underscoring the divergence between the US and its allies on AI governance.
The US Vice President also applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment towards democratising emerging technologies and his calling upon global governments to work collectively to ensure AI benefits are accrued equally by all nations. The differences were openly visible during the summit-- Europe seeks to regulate and invest, China expands access through state-backed tech giants, and the US, under President Donald Trump, champions a hands-off approach.
The summit drew world leaders, top tech executives, and policymakers to debate AI’s impact on security, economics, and governance. The two-day Paris Summit, which kicked off on Monday, aims to achieve three major objectives: Provide access to independent, safe and reliable AI to a wide range of users; develop AI that is more environmentally friendly; and ensure global governance of artificial intelligence that is both effective and inclusive.
The AI Action Summit is bringing together global leaders and tech CEOs to discuss the future of AI. The summit aims to promote cooperation on the responsible and ethical use of AI technologies, which may prove pivotal in shaping the future of the global economy. The previous editions of the AI Summit were held in the UK in 2023 and then in South Korea in 2024.
