Indian equity market has hit a fresh high, reinforcing the fact that India is a bright spot in the global economy. Global markets, however, are on a topsy turvey path as a lot hinges on the Fed’s action in the upcoming policy meetings of September and November. The latest US CPI print shows that US consumer prices have risen by the most in 14 months in led by a surge in gasoline cost, but the annual rise in underlying inflation was the smallest in nearly two years. The mixed US inflation data has raised expectations that the US Federal Reserve may keep interest rate hikes on hold next week but a hike in the November policy could still be on the anvil. Will this prolong the rate hike cycle in US and are the Indian markets decoupling from their global counterparts as they continue to smash record highs?
