Deepinder Goyal said that Zomato’s delivery partners are automatically covered under the company’s delivery partner insurance policy.

Zomato has recently revealed that its 1.5 million delivery partners earned an average of Rs 28,000 a month in 2024, an income that CEO Deepinder Goyal called "fairly attractive vis-à-vis alternate income opportunities for them" after accounting for about Rs 5,000 a month for fuel costs, CNBC-TV18 reported.

This year also witnessed a 2.3 percent increase in the delivery partners' average monthly earnings of Rs 27,109 in 2023. The food delivery giant said the date was based on partners who logged in for at least eight hours per day and 26 days per month. It also noted that, over the years, there has been a decrease in the average number of days delivery partners logged in per year and the average hours they worked per day.

Highlighting the company's flexible earning opportunities, Goyal highlighted that delivery partners can log in at any time of the day or on any day of the week and they do not necessarily have to work every day. But some of the delivery partners CNBC-TV18 spoke to, said that they need to log in for 6-8 hours a day to make a decent income after expenses. It is equivalent to working a full-time job but without the benefits of social security.

"Most of them prefer to work with us part-time to generate a secondary source of income for themselves. Many delivery partners work with Zomato seasonally, while others work specific parts of the day," the publication quoted Goyal as saying.

He also shared that all of Zomato’s delivery partners are covered under the company’s delivery partner insurance policy, which includes accident, death, and health cover, among other benefits. In the last four years, the number of claims processed for them has more than doubled to Rs 53 crore per annum. Fifty-five percent of the claims in 2024 were paid to cover medical expenses unrelated to accidents, Goyal said.
