A woman in her 60s died after suffering a medical emergency while riding the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when the guest became unresponsive towards the end of the slow-moving, dark ride, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
Disneyland security personnel immediately began administering CPR before paramedics from Anaheim Fire & Rescue arrived and transported her to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead.
Police spokesperson Sgt Matt Sutter said the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office would determine the precise cause of death. The Orange County Register reported that the woman was believed to have experienced a heart attack, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.
In a statement, Disneyland officials acknowledged that a park visitor had required urgent medical assistance and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The Haunted Mansion, one of Disneyland’s long-standing attractions since its debut in 1969, guides guests through a series of ghostly and theatrical scenes inside a mansion-themed setting. While the attraction features dim lighting and light scares, it is generally regarded as a family-friendly, low-intensity experience.
According to the park’s website, “The Haunted Mansion is dark and contains some mildly frightening scenes, but there is no gore. The ghostly residents are friendly and the ride is slow-moving.”
The attraction also operates in other Disney parks, including Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris.
The woman’s death follows a separate incident at another theme park just weeks earlier, when a man died from blunt force injuries while riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Florida’s upcoming Epic Universe theme park.
Authorities have not indicated any mechanical fault with the Haunted Mansion ride, and Disneyland has not issued further comment as investigations continue.
