A 37-year-old woman and her daughter in Japan have gone viral after the woman revealed she gave birth at 14. Now, 23 years later, the mother and daughter own a maid-themed café in Japan, fulfilling the daughter’s childhood dream.

The mother, identified as Yuka, told Oricon News that she discovered her pregnancy at 13 due to irregular periods and a growing belly. “I did not know what to do. I felt anxious every morning,” she said, adding that she concealed the pregnancy from her parents, confiding only in a friend and wearing loose clothes to hide her belly.

Her parents were shocked when they found out and took her for prenatal check-ups. She gave birth at 14. “No matter my age, my love for my child never changed from the moment I became a mother,” she said.

Yuka has not disclosed details about the child’s father.

Education, entrepreneurship, and parenting

With family support, Yuka completed secondary school, worked part-time at a beauty salon, and attended beauty school. At 19, she opened a hair salon using savings and parental financial aid.

Throughout child-rearing, she prioritised communication. “Do not just get angry with your child, educate them. Always try to see things from their perspective,” she said.

Business and friendship

After her daughter graduated from secondary school, the duo opened a maid café together. Originating from Japan’s anime and gaming culture, maid cafés feature waitresses in Victorian-style outfits offering emotional support—without physical contact.

Yuka described her daughter as her best friend and sister. “Thanks to my daughter, I get to enjoy beauty, trends and fashion together,” she said.

Though she hasn’t disclosed the café’s performance, Yuka said the experience has deepened their bond. “My daughter now works in the family business, and I have returned to being a housewife, supporting her from behind as a mother.”
