A techie turned down a high-paying job offer, sparking a discussion online where many praised his honesty while others doubted his move. Sharing on X, Vanesh Mali, an engineering manager, revealed that he had received a Rs 47 LPA offer for a senior role in Pune, calling it a great opportunity but choosing not to accept it.

“I recently got a fantastic job offer of Rs. 47 LPA in Pune for a senior role. The package was good, and the company was great, but the position demanded skills I don’t fully possess yet. I politely rejected the offer, explaining that I am not ready to deliver at that level right now,” Mali wrote.

Addressing users in the comment section, Mali explained that high-salary roles come with high expectations from leadership. “When someone pays huge money, and if we don't deliver at that level, then it may become a risk for us. And may be an inconvenience for the organisation. Though yes, I agree that skills can be learned on the job,” he said.

The post quickly went viral, attracting mixed reactions from users.

One user said, “That takes real honesty and self-awareness. Respect for choosing long-term growth over a title you’re not ready for yet.”

Another X user wrote, “Honestly, 47LPA means 12-13 lakhs in taxes and another few lakhs in mandatory deductions in hand will be 2.5 lakh per month.”

A third user suggested, “I think you should have taken it, skills can be gained easily, when it's necessary, if there's no timeline, then it will just take a lot more time.”

Another wrote, “I accepted an offer for a senior engineer role, which later felt like a trap. The interview was quite easy, and I cleared every round. I accepted the offer only to find the manager left 2 weeks after I joined. They just wanted to collect a bonus and hire someone before they left.”
